Residential networks have undergone significant changes in the last decade, with service providers (SPs) offering bundled triple-play services to their customers. Subscribers are offered with packages that combine voice, video and data services, delivered in most cases together on the same infrastructure. However, utilizing a single medium to carry all services imposes certain requirements on the access network and the transport metro infrastructure supporting it. Internet access and data services can use E-LAN multipoint-to-multipoint services utilizing connectionless Ethernet technology.
