The E-Series Carrier Ethernet Transport switches are purpose-built to deliver high margin multi-tiered Ethernet services with unmatched Quality of Service (QoS) and traffic engineering capabilities over connectionless and connection-oriented Ethernet networks. Based on the latest advancements in network processing technology, the E-240 and E-80 switches offer high-density switching with FE, 1GE and 10GE (LAN/WAN PHY) interfaces. The switches are uniquely designed to allow five-9s availability, offering carrier-grade resiliency with redundant backplane, fans, power supplies, and CSM control switch modules. Industry-leading QoS features enable guaranteed delivery of mission-critical services, while allowing substantial overbooking of best-effort traffic for maximal network utilization. Thousands of independent hardware queues per interface support any combination of Strict Priority, Committed Bandwidth and Best Effort high capacity traffic. E-Series supports both connectionless Ethernet services for flexible, multipoint automated service deployment and connection-oriented services for strict point-to-point QoS assurance. Service and link monitoring is based on IEEE 802.1ag Connectivity Fault Management and Performance Monitoring based on ITU-T Y.1731. The service-oriented OAM allows rapid diagnosis of network and service level faults, and early detection of network failures and service degradation.

Chassis configurations and interface options

The E-Series switches are available in two platform sizes and multiple configurations to meet various performance and port density needs, making it a right-sized solution for any network environment:

• E-240 – 12 slot chassis, supporting traffic of up to 240Gbps (bidirectional)
• E-80 – 6 slot chassis, supporting traffic of up to 80Gbps (bidirectional)

The switches support a wide range of interface types, providing the ability to mix and match interface types and interchange them across the different platforms, from enterprise-class 10Base-T to carrier-grade 10GE.
